The National Police responded to the Mayor of Medan’s statement Bobby Nasution supporting the shooting of the perpetrators robber. The police view that the act of opening fire on criminals cannot be done casually.
“In principle, this measured decisive action is indeed regulated by law in order to protect the public, but that does not mean it is legalized in every event,” said Head of Public Relations Division of the National Police Inspector General Sandi Nugroho at the Senayan Shooting Range, Central Jakarta, Saturday (15/7/2023) .
Sandi explained that the police could take firm action by opening fire. However, this action, he said, was carried out under certain conditions.
“As long as it’s to protect the community, as long as it’s for self-protection in the context of law enforcement or carrying out that task, there are indeed rules that can explain this,” Sandi explained.
Even so, the former Kapolrestabes Medan said law enforcement was not the main thing. According to him, prevention of criminal acts is more crucial to prioritize.
“The police are currently not prioritizing law enforcement, but the police are prioritizing the community to be police for themselves and the environment,” said Sandi.

According to him, street crime is very troubling for the people in Medan City because they do not hesitate to slash their victims.
It is known that Bobby said that the police would take firm action against robbers when they attended presentations at the Medan Polrestabes and Belawan Port Police. In addition, during the plenary meeting for the 433rd anniversary of Medan City at the DPRD, Bobby also said that thieves would be dealt with firmly.
“Especially for the Belawan Police, Medan Police, and the Head of the North Sumatra Regional Police, the Medan City Government and the people of Medan City really hope for real efforts to take firm action against criminals, motorcycle gangs, robbery, theft of public facilities, and the problem of brawls,” said Bobby. Nasution, Monday (3/7).
Quoted from Bobby Nasution’s Twitter account, he tweeted a statement regarding the shooting to death of the muggers on July 8, 2023. Bobby stated that the crimes of thieves and motorcycle gangs had troubled the community.
“For this reason, I hope the police will be more assertive in taking action against the perpetrators in the field, even if they have to be shot dead,” said Bobby.
Furthermore, Bobby also reiterated his statement in support of the police shooting dead robbers. “Definitely robbers and criminals have no place in Medan. Their actions are troubling. It is right for the authorities to act decisively because we want peace and security in Medan,” said Bobby Nasution in his statement, Tuesday (11/7) yesterday.
President Jokowi’s son-in-law gave his appreciation to the Kapolrestabes Medan Kombes Valentino Alfa Tatareda. Bobby hopes that with this firm action, the thieves will be deterred.
