National Police Launches Operation ‘Consciousness for Life, Holy Week 2024’ to Ensure Safe Return of Vacationers

The General Directorate of the National Police established a preventive action plan within the framework of the Operation “Consciousness for Life, Holy Week 2024”, to ensure the safe return to their homes of vacationers who are enjoying the different tourist destinations. from the country.

The main purpose of the initiative is to guarantee safe movement along the main highways, roads, avenues, streets, bridges and main entrances to urban centers for citizens returning to their residences from and to the main provinces of the country.

For the occasion, Major General Ramón Antonio Guzmán Peralta instructed that focused, preventive actions be implemented based on due respect for human rights.

The scope of the actions to be implemented will be the responsibility of the Central Prevention Directorate with specific provisions to be put into operation throughout the national geography.

Protocol to follow

Within the general provisions it is established that agents must act with prudence to prevent unnecessary conflicts with citizens, taking into account the proportional use of force.

Also, regional directors, departmental commanders and supervisors must reinforce, with the human and logistical resources available in their respective jurisdictions, the entrances to urban centers, especially bridges, roads, main highways (Duarte highway, Las Américas, Sánchez highway).

Likewise, it is established that police personnel on duty at beaches and resorts must be available to provide security on roads, highways, highways and avenues throughout the national territory, as appropriate and under coordination with the central director of Prevention.

Supervision

These measures will be supervised by the General Inspectorate of the National Police, to faithfully comply with this directive, and must instruct the deputy inspectors to take appropriate corrective measures that do not allow the stated objectives to be met.

While for the implementation of Phase II (Safe Return) it will be coordinated by the central director of Prevention, who must keep the general director of the National Police informed of any event of its development until its conclusion.

To implement these actions, it will be done in coordination with the General Directorate of Traffic and Land Transportation Security (Digesett); the Central Intelligence Directorate (Lintel), Central Support and Services Directorate; Central Directorate of Internal Affairs; Central Directorate of the Tourism Police, (Politur); Strategic Communications Directorate; Police Protection and Specialized Services Directorate; General Teaching Hospital of the National Police (Hosgedopol), Administrative and Financial Directorate and the Department of Information and Statistics.

Coordination Actions

The designation of a liaison officer between the Emergency Operations Center (COE) and the law enforcement institution is provided.

The participating State support entities are the Ministry of Defense; Ministry of the Interior and Police; Ministry of Public Health; Ministry of Public Works and Communications; Emergency Operations Center; Attorney General’s Office of the Republic; Civil Defense, Dominican Red Cross; Dominican Fire Department.
