National Platform for Disabled Rights to Challenge Railways’ Concession Card Requirement in Supreme Court

New Delhi:Specially Handicapped Railways Special Photo I.D. to get concession in train fare. The organization will approach the Supreme Court against the requirement to produce the card. The National Platform for the Rights of the Disabled (NPRD) is approaching the Supreme Court against the order of the Delhi High Court.

While accepting that the disability certificate issued by the authorities concerned has nationwide validity, the High Court had upheld the power of the Railways to prescribe special identity cards. While the purpose of the identity card issued by the Department of Dissenters’ Empowerment is to be the only identification document, the condition that the Railways’ card is also required is being questioned in the Supreme Court.
