A national pin failure causes problems at the cash registers throughout the country. People may not be able to pay for their groceries with a debit card and must pay with cash. A solution is being worked on.
It has been raining reports on the Allestoringen.nl website since Thursday morning. Tens of thousands of people say they have problems with payments in stores. It mainly concerns problems with the payment terminals at the cash registers.
This is due to a malfunction at a transaction processor, a spokesperson for the Dutch Payments Association told NU.nl. “Because of agreements, I can’t tell you which provider has the problem,” he says. “We don’t yet know exactly what kind of malfunction it is. Investigations are being carried out into this. Hopefully it will be resolved soon.”
A transaction processor sits between banks and retailers. They ensure that a payment can be processed. In these types of problems, there is often a disruption somewhere in the necessary channels and systems, says the spokesperson. “You can notice something of this throughout the country. We hope to be able to say later what the exact impact has been.”
