National Phase of States General of Education in Mali: Calls for Reform and Improvements in Working Conditions

The national phase of the States General of Education took place on Friday January 19. The strengthening of teaching staff, the change of the education system, the creation of innovative sectors, are among others the recommendations made by the participants at these meetings. They hope that these contributions will help reform Malian education.

Adama OUANE President of the plenary session of the General Assembly of Education believes that the Malian education system must be overhauled to meet current expectations. For the former Minister of Education, this necessarily involves improving human and financial resources in Bamako and within the country. “ An educational system which has endemic problems, which also becomes the problem of violence in the school space, of corporatism within the system, the question of refoundation through languages ​​and cultures”, adds the former Minister of National Education.

Private school teachers call for improved working conditions

At a time when education stakeholders are finalizing this work, graduates of the Teacher Training Institute are deploring their working conditions in public and private schools. Aly Baba Coulibaly is one of them. He recommends their recruitment in order to fill the teacher shortage. “We found that in certain basic schools, out of six classes, there are only two teachers. These are interns who are sent to supplement the missing teachers. With school promoters also colleagues are exploited »regrets the teacher Aly baba Coulibaly.

Participants also highlighted the lack of infrastructure and teachers in remote areas. They call on the State to find a solution.
