NNA – The interim Minister of Energy and Water, Dr. Walid Fayyad, attended a conference on the future of energy in the Mediterranean basin, at the invitation of the Union for the Mediterranean and the Mediterranean Observatory for the ‘Energia, chaired by the former Italian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Lapo Pestali, and directed by Dr. Hoda Ben Janet, in Paris.

Minister Fayyad held a conference during which he presented the reality of energy in the Mediterranean region, as well as the latest developments witnessed by the energy sector in Lebanon, in light of the signing of the agreement for the delimitation of maritime borders and the commitment of the coalition led by the French company “Total” to accelerate drilling and exploration operations.

Minister Fayyad also touched on “the importance of the second round of licensing extension step in June 2023, especially with the growing international interest to invest in the gas extraction sector, in light of the stability resulting from the completion of the demarcation and after the repercussions of the war in Ukraine on global markets”.

He underlined to the participants the need for collective action to ensure convergence between the concepts of energy security and energy transition as we approach the future of the region and aspire to its stability and well-being of its peoples.
