NNA – The head of the Free Patriotic Movement, MP Gebran Bassil, announced in an interview with France 24 that he had not run for president “to make things easier, which is a concession of a fundamental right. If the issue were to be retracted in differently and accused of obstruction, then it would be contrary to logic.” .
He stressed that he had “met those he was supposed to meet in Paris and at his request”, explaining that “the objective of the visit has been achieved”.
He said: “I usually do not disclose the meetings I hold. The crisis is complex in Lebanon, and one of its most important aspects is the presidential vacancy. However, there is a government vacancy, lack of reforms and institutional paralysis The only existing institution, i.e. the House of Representatives, is not able, according to our system, to stand alone in the country”.
He stressed that he offered “a comprehensive vision of a solution that brings us out of the deadlock, and it’s not just tied to names, but rather immunizing each name with a vision of how to get to reform”, noting that “there are candidates supported from the outside, but there is an opportunity for the Lebanese to come up with a president made in Lebanon”.
He said: “We do not want to propose a non-serious candidate who has no chance of reaching, and therefore we vote with a white paper, and I did not run so as not to complicate things to avoid a vacuum and reach an agreement on a president to have success “.
Bassil reiterated his lack of support for the candidacy of the head of the “Marada” movement, Suleiman Franjieh, and said: “We do not agree with him on the political program of state-building reform. And with our understanding of the positions of other parties like Hezbollah in protecting the country and the resistance and others, we see that the priority today is to build the state without contradicting it.” This is with the protection of Lebanon.
