A member of the Political Council of the Free Patriotic Movement, Marawan Melhama, warned in a statement against “interference to free the person arrested by the security forces who attacked the church of Umm al-Faqir in Byblos”.
And he believed that “this attack on our sanctities is caused by the long-standing persistent neglect of Byblos by the city’s leaders. Thanks to them, Byblos has become in the pre-Islamic era and not in the world.”
The church was attacked at dawn today, as its contents and icons were broken and thrown on the street. The security forces arrested the attacker, who is of Syrian nationality, and started the investigation with him.
