National Monte de Piedad Workers Union Strike Gains Solidarity and Support from Other Unions in Campeche

While the members of the National Monte de Piedad Workers Union have been on strike since last February 14, representatives of the National Union of Petroleum Technicians and Professionals (UNTyPP) and the National Union of Telephone Workers, expressed solidarity with the workers. strikers and expressed their support for their movement.

Claudia Ivette Ordoñez May, an employee of Nacional Monte de Piedad, explained that despite this movement, people who have had their collateral loans due since February 14, when the strike broke out, will not lose their guarantees (jewelry or equipment), since that there are clauses in the contract that protect them.

To date, there have been 13 days since the outbreak and, according to the protesters, the company’s directors are still reluctant to maintain a dialogue that will allow them to reach agreements on salary increases that have been requested in order to put an end to this motion.

They recalled that the increase being requested is based on the need for the employees who earn the least to be able to very little exceed the minimum wage in force in the country, since it is only 10 pesos per day.

They expressed that many people who have collateral loans in this company do not run the risk of losing their jewelry or equipment, since since the offices are not working, they cannot make the corresponding payments, which is contemplated in the contract signed by the pledgor.

Solidarity

This weekend, members of the UNTyPP and telephone operators appeared at the two branches of Nacional Monte de Piedad in Carmen, to express their support for the strikers, delivering food, expressing their solidarity in this movement.

Marisabel Buenfil Cano, general secretary of Section 93, of the National Telephone Operators Union, said that the demands of the workers of Nacional Monte de Piedad are legitimate, which is why this organization, in support of its colleagues, collected the supplies delivered and They will continue to do so as long as the strike continues.
