National Mobilization Day: Inter-Union Calls for Mass Demonstrations on October 13, 2023

This Friday, October 13, the inter-union is calling for a new day of mobilization. The Hauts-de-France unions hope that the French will be there, but some admit that the movement will have less impact than the strikes against pension reform.

Strengthening public services, ecological transition, purchasing power… The inter-union is calling for national mobilization for common causes this Friday, October 13, 2023. It aims to bring together as many people as possible on current issues according to the unions.

We need to stock up“, protests Sunday on franceinfo Sophie Binet, general secretary of the CGT. “I think the French are very angry“, she adds. She believes that “wages are totally insufficient to live on“. “This is why I call on all employees to strike, to demonstrate“.

And the Hauts-de-France unions think no less than the boss of the CGT. “We need another day of action, particularly in relation to the increasing cost of living.“, explains Marc Lambert, Sud-Rail representative for the region.

Et on is always the same union unit. It is a very good thing. The CFDT was often sidelined and with the demonstrations against pension reform, we proved the opposite“, explains Sébastien Gauthier, general secretary of Sgen-CFDT in Oise.

This professor adds that this demonstration should not be reduced to salaries. “In national education, there is a lack of resources. We have replacement issues. It is therefore necessary to demonstrate“, he explains.

But some are less optimistic. “DThe French are discouraged and depressed. There won’t be the people we had during the demonstrations against the pension reform. It becomes complicated to ask them to mobilize a day of work“, deplores a trade unionist contacted by the editorial staff, who will be present during one of the rallies organized in Hauts-de-France.

This date was not chosen by chance on the part of the unions. The social movement is marked by a European strike. “Trade unionists from all over Europe will gather in the Parisian procession that day for a ‘euro demonstration’, as they say in the jargon“, indicates the CGT on its website.

The last strike of this kind dates back to April 2019. It was a demonstration against austerity. “This is often the slogan that brings people together on a European scale, particularly since the 2008 crisis.“, explains Boris Plazzi, member of the CGT confederal office and responsible for European issues in a press release.

In total, 201 gatherings are planned for this Friday, October 13, 2023, where the main demonstration will take place in Paris, at around 2 p.m., and which will start from Place d’Italie.

In Hauts-de-France, 13 parades have already been identified by the CGT, including one in Lille, at 2:30 p.m. at the Porte de Paris and Amiens at 10 a.m. where the procession will set off through the streets from the Maison de la Culture. The union created a platform to find a gathering closest to you.
