San José, October 3, 2024. During the month of October, the National Dance, Theater and Circus Meeting 2024 (ENDTC) will offer a series of shows and workshops, which will take place in the communities of Goicoechea and Quepos.
This event is an effort of the Ministry of Culture and Youth, through the Popular Theater Melico Salazar (TPMS).
The activities of the National Meeting of Dance, Theater and Circus begin in Goicoechea, where a varied artistic program will be presented, from October 10 to 13, with shows designed to revitalize and strengthen the performing arts sector; Later, from October 17 to 20, the activities will continue in Quepos, with an offer that celebrates creativity and national talent.
Among the groups and artists that will present shows are: Teatro Contraluz, Compañía Nacional de Danza, Los Malafachas, Danza Abend, Juno Clown, Compañía La Bicicleta, Impromptu Teatro, Enjhambre, Actórbatas, Colectivo R3M, Bryan Chavarría, Anselmo Navarro, among others .
The ENDTC was created under the Emergency and Cultural Rescue Law and focuses on revitalizing the disciplines of contemporary dance, professional theater and circus arts. According to Pablo Piedra Matamoros, executive director of the Popular Theater Melico Salazarthis effort is essential to support artistic projects that were seriously affected by the pandemic. “The National Dance, Theater and Circus Meeting is not only a space to enjoy art, but to meet as a community, reflect and strengthen performing culture; We want to offer an accessible and inclusive space. In addition, a wide variety of workshops open to the public and for all ages will be offered, as well as in-person workshops with experts, aimed at people in the artistic sector.”
As part of this second edition of the ENDTC, workshops open to the public will be offered that include activities such as dramatic play for girls and boys, older adults and people with disabilities; puppet workshops, castingaerial dance, theater, movement, juggling, voice, among others.
Additionally, at the close of some of the performances, discussions will be held where the public can interact with the artists. These spaces are designed to encourage community participation and enrich the artistic experience of the event. Likewise, three free in-person workshops will be offered aimed at the performing arts sector, whose topics include: essential elements of set design, Afro dances and vocal technique for theater.
Within the framework of the ENDTC, a collaboration with the 2024 International Arts Festival will also be included, at the venues in Cañas and Nicoya. This means that some of the ENDTC shows can also be seen at the FIA, at the indicated venues; In addition, an ENDTC show will be presented in Panama City in November 2024.
