National Maritime Authority warns the population not to visit the beaches on the long weekend

The National Maritime Authority recommends to the entire population that in the next long weekend, with a forecast of temperature increase, stay away from the beaches, assuming a safety behavior and avoiding exposing yourself to risk.

It is also important to remember that, in addition to the risks that still exist for public health with the Covid-19 pandemic, the beaches are not yet guarded by lifeguards, which will only occur at the beginning of the bathing season.

The Maritime Police will increase surveillance and inspection on the beaches in the coming days, with the aim of sensitizing the population and avoiding risky behaviors, safeguarding public health.

Thus, it is essential that the Portuguese follow the instructions and recommendations of the authorities and maintain safety behaviors, social distance and avoid exposing themselves unnecessarily to risk.

“We also warn you that you should not enter the water if you witness a dangerous situation, but ask for help through 112. Remember: A trip to the beach is not worth a life!” appeal.
