National Library: Education is a long-term investment – Sonora.id

Kupang, Sonora.Id – 157 municipal/subdistrict libraries and 167 community reading parks (TBM) in the NTT region received assistance with quality reading materials from the National Library. From this figure, Kupang City itself has three sub-district libraries and seven TBMs.

The National Library of Indonesia symbolically provided support on the sidelines of the Reading Love Socialism activity in Kupang City, Monday, (28/10/2024).
The Head of the Center for Library Analysis and Development of Reading Culture at the National Library, Nurhadisaputra, said that the use of quality reading materials is important in enhancing the reading culture in NTT.

“We see that there are still pockets of areas in NTT that have difficulty accessing reading as the provincial government said,” said Nurhadi.

Nurhadi revealed that the results of reading interest level measurement (TGM) and literacy in Indonesia are not good. This is what has motivated the National Library to make several policy developments to improve the quality of people’s interest in reading and literacy.

“Don’t forget that our goal as a state is to make national life smarter,” he said

Asda for the Government and the People’s Welfare NTT Regional Secretary Bernadeta M. Usboko admitted that with the support of the National Library, problems will begin to be solved in regional pockets where it is difficult to get reading materials.
The problem of reading in NTT is not only the availability of reading materials but also the limited internet signal so people have difficulty accessing information.

“The state of society that is still diverse in their efforts to get information is a challenge for us,” explained Bernadeta.

It is felt that the approach to fostering a love of reading through families, educational units and society is appropriate. Remembering the role of the family is the beginning of the development of a culture of reading and literacy for children in NTT. All it takes is showing commitment and consistency to shape people’s reading habits.

Bernadeta agrees that reading is an effective way to educate and foster critical thinking in young people. Therefore, his party is ready to work together to accelerate the knowledge of NTT children through reading.

“Education is a long-term investment, reading is the main pillar,” he said.
