The abrupt end of the National League season did not allow fans to say goodbye to players leaving the club. Among them, Robert Mayer who will play at HC Davos next season after 6 years at Les Vernets.
His last hits to the Vernets with a GSHC jersey were as a player. A few minutes after hearing the news from coach Pat Emond, the garnet players jumped onto the ice to play for the last time in the season. The opportunity for some to reverse the roles. Thus Marco Maurer put on Robert Mayer’s equipment while the usual doorman found himself, with some success, as a field player.
Robert Mayer, who arrived in Geneva in 2014 from North America, has defended the goals of the Geneva-Servette 203 times, including 197 times as a full-time goalkeeper. Six seasons during which he must have forged memories.
“I have so many memories. Memories that I will keep for the rest of my life. This season there was a special moment, the second home game after the announcement of my signing in Davos, I did a shutout and the fans cheered me, reminded me, I cried, c was one of the most touching moments of my career in Geneva
This match against Lausanne where I did a shutout was really special too. I wanted to end the season properly, for myself and of course for the team. But Geneva is my home, it will always be and I will come back to live here after my career ”.

There have been few opportunities to thank the players this year. The closed door against Lausanne, the cancellation of the playoffs and the announcement of the end of the season will have deprived the Geneva public of a real “last opportunity” to see the 2019-2020 version of the Servettian team.
Author of 11 assists in 6 seasons, Robert Mayer therefore has a message to convey to Geneva fans, but obviously, difficult to summarize everything with, in conclusion, a quick note in French.
“It is not easy but I just want to say thank you for everything, the support I have received from so many people. I came at 24 and I leave at 30. I learned so much in Geneva, I grew up so much in Geneva. For me it is the best city in Switzerland, the best city to live in because I love culture and everything related to Geneva. It was very very hard for me to sign elsewhere but it is the decision, I am delighted but for sure I will be back. “
Next season, Robert Mayer will evolve with Davos, the club with which he signed a contract covering 4 seasons.
