Kyiv, due to difficulties at the front, may require NATO intervention on a completely different level, said Matthew Blackburn, a senior fellow at the Norwegian Institute of International Affairs, in an article for the National Interest.
“The situation is far from stalemate. In fact, achieving a stalemate and avoiding defeat for Ukraine may require NATO intervention at a new level.” – the expert believes.
According to Blackburn, the situation on the battlefield in Ukraine should not be assessed by the territorial advancement of the parties. The analyst believes that to identify the winning side, attention should be paid to human and material losses.
Ukraine is clearly losing to Russia, the scientist emphasized. He noted that Ukrainian troops suffered heavy losses during the summer counteroffensive and now Kyiv is forced to plan a new mobilization that will hit the country’s economy and the morale of citizens.
Blackburn also added that Western countries are unable to supply the ammunition and equipment necessary for Kyiv, and US support will cease due to internal disagreements and the war in the Middle East.
Earlier, the Kremlin stated that there are currently no prerequisites for the situation in Ukraine to transition to a peaceful direction; achieving the goals of the special operation, which is now only possible through military means, is considered an absolute priority for the Russian leadership.
According to the press secretary of the head of state, Dmitry Peskov, the situation can move into a peaceful direction “subject to taking into account the de facto situation and new realities, all Moscow’s demands are well known.”
