The National Council for Human Rights, Social Rights Committee, in collaboration with the Cultural Committee and the United Nations Population Fund, organized a workshop entitled “Human Rights and Reproductive Health in Curricula Academic.”
This came under the chairmanship of Ambassador Moushira Khattab, President of the Council, and in the presence of Dr. Wafa Benjamin, a member of the Council and Secretary of the Social Committee, Dr. Nevin Massad, a member of the Council, and Dr. Maha Mowafi, Director of the A program of the United Nations Population Fund.
Khattab confirmed that the workshop aims to integrate human rights and reproductive health into curricula for the middle and high school levels, as part of efforts to improve national education according to the best practices between -national, noting the need to include reproductive health and provide knowledge about it. in curricula, as it is a fundamental right to raise awareness of health and social issues, and empower young men and women to improve the quality of life and build a healthy and educated society.
She explained that including reproductive health in academic curricula is part of the efforts aimed at raising a generation that is aware and able to face health and social challenges in Egypt.
Benjamin pointed out that the workshop aims to increase the level of awareness among teachers and curriculum experts on issues related to population, reproductive health, and human rights.
It also aims to develop curricula to reflect these themes, and to increase teachers’ abilities to present them in effective ways.
She confirmed that the Council is working on developing a comprehensive plan for training and course development to ensure that correct and appropriate information reaches all students and to increase awareness about reproductive health.
Dr. Nevin Massad explained that the Council places great emphasis on developing educational curricula in a way that increases the awareness of future generations on human rights and reproductive health, and that the Council works to coordinate with various agencies, including the Ministry of Education and the United Nations Population Fund, to ensure that these vital subjects are integrated into academic curricula.
Dr. Maha Mowafi, Director of Programs at the United Nations Population Fund in Egypt, pointed out that the promotion of human rights in teaching reproductive health courses in schools is a strategic step towards an informed and educated society. construction, and that there is no good education in this area. limited to providing information only, but also includes empowering individuals to understand their rights and needs.
She emphasized that this collaboration between the Council and the United Nations Population Fund represents a common commitment to ensure a healthy and safe future for young people, where knowledge is an enabling force. for them to make informed decisions that benefit their communities.
Several experts from the Ministry of Education and representatives of the United Nations Population Fund participated in the workshop. The program included interactive discussion sessions and workshops.
The workshop covered a number of topics, including developing school curricula to include reproductive health and human rights topics, ways to implement awareness within schools, and national and regional experiences.
