Libreville, October 5, 2023 (AGP) – The Minister of Sports, Dr. André Jacques Augand, discussed, this Thursday, the presidents of men’s and women’s football clubs on issues relating to the resumption of domestic competitions.
Things are gradually becoming clearer. The Minister of Sports, Dr André Jacques Augand, received, this Thursday, the presidents of the clubs involved in the running of the country’s three main domestic competitions, namely National Football 1 and 2 as well as the women’s first division championship. , all of which have been closed for several months already, due to lack of funding.
“The Minister did us the honor of meeting today to discuss issues related to the resumption of the national championship. We reminded the minister of the reasons which led the clubs to suspend this competition, in particular the players’ debt and the subsidy linked to the clubs. Because the players went almost eight months without receiving their salaries,” recalled the president of the association of professional football clubs of Gabon (ACPFG), Landry Nkeyi.
“It was also a question for the minister to know in what sporting and economic environment we must evolve this year as a prelude to the national first and second division championship. And we made proposals to the minister and the latter took note of them, just like those previously issued by Fegafoot, Linaf and Linaffem,” he continued.
Landry Nkeyi was, moreover, quite confident about the realization of the result resulting from these consultations with the Minister of Sports.
“There is no reason why this championship should not restart before December. A work program has been put in place by the Minister. It is up to the guardianship to decline it. As soon as it is delivered, everything will be done so that the championship can start in very good conditions,” assured Landry Nkeyi.
