(Lima = Yonhap News) Correspondent Lee Jae-rim = Peru, which has been in chaos since the impeachment of the president, is restoring its aviation, transport and transportation systems one by one during the declaration of a national emergency.

Perurail, a train operator in the southern part of Peru, announced that it began operating trains connecting Ollantaytambo and Machu Picchu to Cusco at 8:30 am on the 19th (local time).

There are six flights, including three departures from Ollantaytambo and three departures from Machu Picchu. Ollantaytambo is like a gateway for travelers heading to Machu Picchu.

It has been six days since the service was suspended amid violent protests sparked by the impeachment and detention of former president Pedro Castillo on the 13th.

Since the operation of the Cusco International Airport has been resumed earlier, the movement of tourists stranded in Machu Picchu is expected to breathe.

The operator explained in a related notice: “There are still stones left by protesters on some railway tracks, so trains will be restricted until major obstacles are removed.”

Earlier, on the 17th, some tourists took an emergency train and descended the mountainside, then descended along the railroad tracks to avoid the rocks.

Road and ground transportation is also returning to what it was before the impeachment protests.

In a report released this morning by the government’s land transport management department, “vehicle traffic is running smoothly on 130 out of 157 roads.”

The government added that for now it will not charge highway tolls in areas where freight transportation has been disrupted, such as the Pan American Expressway.

Currently, the Peruvian military is carrying out security operations at the main public facilities, including airports and highways, after the state of emergency (30 days) declared on the 14th.

In the midst of this, President Dina Voluarte called for national unity to restore peace and stability.

President Voluarte said in a speech at the Naval Academy graduation ceremony that day, in accordance with the principles of Magna Carta, “everyone should be reminded that we must unite, embrace and unite” and “in times of crisis , reason must take precedence over violence”.

He also expressed his condolences to the 20 people who died during the protests, adding that dialogue is the only way to normalize.

After the early elections (presidential and general), one of the main demands of the protesters, encountered difficulties due to the opposition of the National Assembly, President Voluarte, less than two weeks after taking office, decided to carry out a further reshuffle of government.

Appearing on local TV the day before, he hinted at his intention to replace the prime minister in addition to the two ministers who had already resigned, and said of the new cabinet: “As this is an interim government, it will be a bit more cabinet politician who will cooperate with the parliament”.
