National Discrimination Reporting Number Delayed: New Activation Date Announced

Jan 2, 2024 at 1:10 PM Update: an hour ago

Anyone who wants to report discrimination via the free national telephone number 0800-0880 must be patient for a few extra days. The telecom supplier that was supposed to activate the number on January 1 appears to have stopped working. This is what the national reporting center Discriminatie.nl told NU.nl.

Originally, the national number to report discrimination would be active from January 1. But anyone who called 0800-0880 on that day was told that the number was not available.

According to chairman Sjaak van der Linde of Discriminatie.nl, the company that would activate the 0800 number stopped just before Christmas. He was not aware of this because of the holiday period. The same applied to at least four regional anti-discrimination agencies, which had announced the national issue on their website as of January 1.

The partnership of anti-discrimination agencies now says it has found a new company to activate 0800-0880. That will happen this week.

You can already report via Discrimination.nl

Only 3 percent of people who experience discrimination in the Netherlands report it. While 11 percent of Dutch residents aged fifteen or older felt discriminated against in 2021. That is more than one and a half million people.

With the free 0800 number, Discriminatie.nl wants to lower the threshold for people who experience or see discrimination in their environment. You can now report discrimination via the website. This can be done anonymously via the online form on Discrimination.nl. If you do leave your details, an employee will contact you for support.
