National Defense Survey Reveals Gender and Minority Attitudes in Lithuania

According to survey data, 44% of men and 17% of women are ready to fight with weapons in their hands in case of war. On the other hand, 62% of men and 56% of women are ready to make another kind of contribution to national defense.

The survey also revealed that the largest minorities in Lithuania are more skeptical about the need to be involved in national defense.

52% of the Russian-speaking and 34.5% of the representatives of the Polish minority do not plan to defend Lithuania, reports public media LRT.

In case of war, only 19% of survey participants would consider fleeing Lithuania.

81% of the survey participants believe that mandatory military service for men is necessary in Lithuania, while almost two-thirds of the respondents oppose the introduction of such service for women as well.
