Jakarta –
Head of the National Counter-Terrorism Agency (BNPT) Rycko Amelza revealed the origins of his proposal for a control mechanism for places of worship. He said that initially he heard information about a house of worship owned by Pertamina broadcasting lectures containing insults against leaders and the government.
“Look, it started with a question about there being a house of worship belonging to state-owned Pertamina, this state-owned company, where the content of the lecture was making fun of spreading hatred towards someone towards the leader, the government, spreading the feeling of preaching violence like that,” said Rycko to reporters. at the Royal Kuningan Hotel, South Jakarta, Friday (8/9/2023).
He then responded to this information by comparing religious lecture activities in other countries he had visited. Rycko said that the process of establishing a place of worship and the content of lectures are closely monitored in other countries.
“I said that other countries that I come, the government mosques are under complete control. “Starting to set it up, the schedule of hours, the speakers, and the content are completely controlled,” said Rycko.
Rycko assesses that this monitoring effort is effective in narrowing the spread of radicalism. “And they are able to narrow the space for the spread of radical ideas,” he added.
Rycko then explained that if this is implemented in Indonesia, it must be adapted to the domestic situation. In Indonesia, he added, places of worship such as mosques were built by many parties, not just the government.
Therefore, Rycko said that the government cannot control places of worship alone, but there needs to be involvement of all elements of the nation. Rycko realized BNPT Nor is it able to control all places of worship in Indonesia.
“Indonesia is not all owned by the government. There are mosques built by individuals, by community groups. Build Islamic boarding schools, build mosques inside. Even if the government is given the authority by law to control, its ability No there is, what’s more, only BNPT is only a small number, No enough,” said Rycko.
“So that’s why I offer, we need to think about these words, we need to think about a control mechanism for places of worship, especially mosques which are used to spread radical ideas. Where the symbols of Islamic religious attributes with their number of religions are used to spread “a sense of hatred in the name of democracy,” explained the former Head of the National Police Education and Training Institute.
