National Councilor Regina Durrer-Knobel takes stock of her first four sessions in Bern.

Four sessions and one special session are behind me. I have been able to represent the people of Nidwalden in the National Council for almost a year now. I can say that I have settled in well. I was able to represent important matters such as the payment framework for education, research and innovation, the cultural embassy or the Movetia law before parliament, fight for an extension of daycare funding, the abolition of the marriage penalty and a constitutional implementation of the tobacco law and in several elections Count votes. And of course I had to decide x times whether to press the green, red or yellow button. Friendships have been formed and the lively discussions in and outside the council chamber across all party lines enliven everyday work in the Federal Palace.
It makes me proud that I can contribute my part to good solutions, knowing that this requires making many – even uncomfortable – compromises.

Because one thing is clear: a business can only be carried out successfully if we work on it together. This requires a lot of discussions in the Commission, in the parliamentary group and in the Council. And even then it is not certain that a yes vote in the National Council will not be reversed in the Council of States. This is sometimes frustrating and often time-consuming, but it guarantees the stability and therefore the security and prosperity of our country.
I am looking forward to further work and will continue to bring a piece of Nidwalden to Bern with a lot of commitment.
