According to the Gwangju City Badminton Association on the 24th, the ‘2024 Siwon Hospital Cup National Sports Badminton Competition in Commemoration of Ahn Se-young’s Olympic Conquest’ will be held at the Gwangju Women’s University Gymnasium on the 26th and 27th. Over 500 teams from across the country are expected to participate.
‘Bitgoeul’ Gwangju is the foundation that laid the foundation for Ahn Se-young’s athletics. Born in Naju, Jeollanam-do, he started playing badminton in Gwangju. He began his career as an elite athlete at Pungam Elementary School, located in Seo-gu, Gwangju. When I was in the first grade of elementary school, I picked up a racket for the first time while following my father, Ahn Jeong-hyeon (55, super heavyweight winner of the 4th Seoul Cup Boxing Competition in 1995), a former national boxing player and badminton fan.
He was a top prospect who made a name for himself by being evaluated as having ‘no rivals’ since his elementary and middle school days, including being selected as the youngest national team member at Gwangju Sports Middle School. Afterwards, he continued his reputation at Gwangju Physical Education High School and joined his current Samsung Life Insurance badminton team.

The Gwangju City Badminton Association plans to hold this competition as a national festival in which all citizens participate. The association’s plan is to ensure that not only sports enthusiasts across the country but also citizens of Gwangju can enjoy the competition.
Various prizes will be provided through a drawing at the competition, and badminton equipment will be awarded as prizes. In particular, a ‘photo time with Ahn Se-young gold medal’ event will be held. If you participate in the event, you can take a commemorative photo right next to the gold medal that Ahn Se-young received at the Paris Olympics. It is also reported that a mini bust of Ahn Se-young will also be displayed.
Ahn Se-young’s surprise appearance is also known to be under discussion, and attention is focused on whether or not it will happen.
