National coach for the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes

The Kiel football Bundesliga team is further strengthening itself for the 2024 season and is pleased to have a well-known new addition to the coaching staff. Vlady Ilic will now support head coach Timo Zorn and defensive coordinator Carsten Dohm and will take over the defensive line of the Kiel Baltic Hurricanes.

The 50-year-old has held this position since 2011 in the German national team, with which they became European champions in 2014 and won the silver medal at the World Games in 2017.

“Coach Zorn and I have talked about joining the Canes before, but somehow it always didn’t work out. The whole organization has a long tradition and Coach Zorn has a clear idea of ​​how and where he sees the Canes in the future and I would now like to support this in the best possible way. This year it worked and now I’m looking forward to the team and the other coaches,” said Ilic, who coached the Lübeck Cougars for the last three seasons.

As a player, Ilic, who works for the Hamburg fire department, became German champion seven times with the Berlin Adlers and the Hamburg Blue Devils and won the Eurobowl twice. From 1995 to 2000 he was also active as a professional in what was then known as NFL Europe and became World Bowl Champion with the original Frankfurt Galaxy.

Ilic started coaching in 2006 and has since passed on his knowledge and experience to the young players. In 2019 he was honored with induction into the Hall of Fame of the American Football Association of Germany.

“Coach Ilic is a true luminary in German football who has been successful at all levels. The fact that he chose Kiel is a compliment to us and our path. He is an absolute dream fit for the defensive line as he brings incredible experience and expertise to Kiel, which will help us further shape the unit and build on the foundation laid out by Lucas Adamec,” says head coach Timo Zorn. Lucas Adamec, who took over the defensive line in 2022, will not be available next year for professional reasons and said goodbye to his unit last week.
