National Campaign to Recover Human Papillomavirus Vaccine Coverage | Vaccines save millions of lives!

Zoé Robledo, Director General of the Mexican Institute of Social Security (IMSS) announced that from November 22 to December 9, the institution under his leadership participates jointly with the Government Secretary of Health of the CDMX and the Institute of Safety and Social Services for State Workers (ISSSTE), in the execution of the National Campaign for the recovery of vaccination coverage against the Human Papilloma Virus, a period in which the staff of the three institutions will visit the 605 public secondary schools located in the 16 municipalities of the country’s capital, with the aim of inoculating 110,000 girls aged 13 and 14.

“The decline (in immunization actions) was due to many factors, including an increase in the number of children living in fragile and conflict settings where accessing immunization is often a challenge, increased misinformation and problems related to COVID-19, such as service and supply chain disruptions, diversion of resources for response and containment efforts, measures that have limited access and availability of immunization services. World Health Organization.

On the other hand, CIS and Trans women aged 11 to 49 who want to protect themselves from potential HPV infection, can go to the Comprehensive Health Unit for Trans People, located in Plan de San Luis, corner with Manuel Carpio, Colonia Santo Tomás, mayor Miguel Hidalgo.

Teens aged 13 and 14 require a single dose, in contrast to CIS and trans women living with HIV, who require three doses. In all cases, the vaccination is free.

The HPV vaccine, launched in June 2006, is a global achievement that seeks to solve a serious public health problem, as infection with this human papillomavirus is considered the most common sexually transmitted infectious disease, with an impressive global prevalence of about 12% in women and 20% in men, although as in all conditions, low- and middle-income countries, and in them, people included in the most affected socioeconomic segments, are those that reach the higher infection rates.

It is necessary to comment that the HPV vaccination campaign in CDMX is not an isolated action, since in several states of the Mexican Republic, such as: Puebla, Sinaloa, Sonora, Jalisco, San Luis Potosí, Quintana Roo and Michoacán, the health authorities have taken similar actions, having the same recipients.
