SANCTUARY partially reopens for members only, for now.

Mission, Tx.- Although in a limited way, the sanctuary of butterflies reopened its doors. The sanctuary suspended activities in February when it announced it would close indefinitely.
The Board of Directors of the Association of butterflies of North America closed the botanic garden early last month after receiving “false and defamatory attacks directed by political operators”.
Republicans affiliated with then President Donald Trump launched accusations of human trafficking against employees of the Butterfly Center in Mission, causing its closure.
It’s already been six weeks that the center has been closed to the general public, until Tuesday when it opened but only for members.
Sanctuary officials said in a tweet this week that it was reopening for members and to welcome back a rare visitor, the loop-winged butterfly.
The center first became a target for conservatives in 2017, when it opposed Trump administration plans to build a border wall through the sanctuary. After announcing in February that its doors would be closed indefinitely, the National Center for butterflies reopened this week on a limited basis.
