Mönchengladbach/Krefeld/Lower Rhine. They achieved the highest scores in their final exams last year. And after a Corona break of more than two years, they have now been duly honored again in Berlin: the nation’s best IHK trainees. There were a total of 216 national bests. The highest possible score of 100 was achieved seven times. Among the best were 99 women and 117 men. 41 of the best in the country come from North Rhine-Westphalia, putting the state in second place. Five super trainees from the region of the Middle Lower Rhine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (IHK) are among the honorees, who prevailed over almost 300,000 test participants.

One of them is Niklas Groth. The 22-year-old from Mönchengladbach did an apprenticeship as an electronics technician for devices and systems at Scheidt & Bachmann GmbH. “In our company, we started working through old exams early on as preparation and discussing them together in the group,” says Niklas Groth. There was no “secret recipe” for doing well, but it is very important to concentrate on learning right from the start of the training.

The 22-year-old is now in his second semester studying electrical engineering at the Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences in Krefeld. His advice to other young people is to “start an apprenticeship before you start studying, because you are on your own during your studies and in an apprenticeship you already learn the basics for studying after the apprenticeship”. The training was definitely the right decision for him. Niklas Groth is especially grateful for his brother’s support. “I would also like to thank my trainers, who supported and pushed me.”

In addition to Niklas Groth, the following trainees from the Middle Lower Rhine were also honored: Paula Kokot (textile product designer, AUNDE Achter & Ebels GmbH, Mönchengladbach), Recep Mahramanli (foundry mechanic, START NRW GmbH, Krefeld), Simone Gillhuber (animal keeper, specialty: zoo, zoo). Krefeld gGmbH) and Edda Jabben (textile laboratory assistant, Niederrhein University of Applied Sciences, Krefeld).

Around 900 guests took part in the award ceremony in Berlin – in addition to parents and relatives of the best, there were also representatives of the training companies and chambers of industry and commerce as well as members of the Bundestag. Moderator Thore Schölermann hosted the event, which was broadcast live on the Internet.

“It is a special honor for the trainees to be recognized for their achievements in this festive setting. And they deserve this appreciation. We are very pleased that five trainees from the Middle Lower Rhine are among those honored nationwide,” said Daniela Perner, Managing Director of the Vocational Training and Trade Department of the Middle Lower Rhine Chamber of Industry and Commerce. “This shows that we have super-talented junior staff, the best training companies and vocational colleges. We can be justifiably proud of that.”
