The National Assembly gave a mandate to the cabinet to approve the French proposal for PCM. This is the first step towards obtaining the green light to lift the veto and start negotiations between RS Macedonia and the EU.
MEPs adopted the French proposal with 170 votes in favor, 37 against and 21 abstentions. A positive vote was given by 59 deputies from “We continue the Change”, as many from GERB-UDF, 34 – from MRF, 16 – from DB and two independents. “Against” were one representative of the PP, four from the BSP, 18 from the ITN, 12 from the “Revival” and two independents. 18 MPs from the left, one from the PP and two independents abstained.
Now the proposal must be accepted by the Council of Ministers, which will send it to Brussels.
Prior to the historic vote, the National Assembly rejected a draft decision submitted by Mustafa Karadayi on the draft presidency framework for EU membership of RS Macedonia proposed by the French presidency. In principle, this project was not approved by the external committee.
The National Assembly also rejected the draft decision submitted by GERB and Desislava Atanasova for the draft negotiating framework proposed by the French presidency.
The debates in the plenary hall lasted nearly 5 hours.
In one voice “for” the French proposal was spoken by “Democratic Bulgaria”, GERB, MRF and “We continue the Change”.
“You know that Europe’s eyes are on us,” said Atanas Mihnev of We Continue Change.
“When it comes to such important national issues, I consider it most normal to work together, regardless of political divisions. This does not cancel them and does not make us part of any coalitions, “said Hristo Ivanov of Democratic Bulgaria.
“I will be happy to adopt a draft decision that brings together all pro-Euro-Atlantic forces,” said Desislava Atanasova of GERB.
“We have been consistent that the Balkans must be in a common union. Not to build walls, but to remove barriers “, commented Mustafa Karadayi from MRF.
The degree of tension rose after a speech by the BSP.
“Is a solution possible when one side behaves in a severe, disrespectful way and kicks the ankles of the other side,” explained Georgi Mihailov of the BSP.
Sharp remarks against “There is such a people” and “Revival” followed.
“Yesterday Macron said the following:” We have put a lot of pressure on Bulgaria in recent months. I want to congratulate Kiril Petkov. He did everything. ” Since the beginning of the year, we have been saying that the Prime Minister is working against the interests of the Bulgarian position. Today is a disgraceful day for Bulgaria, because MPs will become national traitors “, Toshko Yordanov was categorical.
It is obvious that the proposed solution is not the result of a Bulgarian political compromise. It is a matter of a foreign compromise, which brings together the uncollectible “, said Kostadin Kostadinov.
