National aeronautical sector faces critical crossroads: CPAM

Mexico City. The national aeronautical sector faces a critical crossroads that, at the same time, presents an opportunity to consolidate itself as a regional leader in pilot training, in the modernization of its aerospace infrastructure, and the urgency of adapting the industry to the demands of sustainability and emerging technology, said Ángel Domínguez Catzín, president of the College of Aviator Pilots of Mexico (CPAM).

He said that by 2030, a deficit of 30,000 pilots is expected in the region, which underlines the urgent need to develop an educational infrastructure that is aligned with the growing market demand.

“By developing and promoting high-quality training programs that align with international standards, Mexico can not only meet its domestic demand for pilots, but also export talent globally and even train aviators from North America, Central America and the Caribbean,” he said.

In parallel, he said that the current political situation offers an ideal opportunity to advance the modernization of the Mexican aerospace sector. He added that with a significant majority in Congress, and the arrival of Claudia Sheinbaum to the presidency, the country is in a position to promote structural reforms that integrate aviation into major national strategies.

“Collaborating with the executive branch in the construction of a State aeronautical policy will not only allow us to face immediate challenges, but also prepare the sector for future demands,” said the CPAM representative.

He reiterated that the president-elect has expressed her commitment to sustainability and renewable energy, elements that, he said, must be incorporated into Mexican aeronautical policy to ensure sustainable and competitive development.

He said this vision offers Mexico the opportunity to be a pioneer, as well as a unique position to lead the sector in the region.

“This is the time for Mexico to take control of its future in the aeronautical sector, taking advantage of the opportunities that arise and overcoming the challenges with vision and determination. The construction of a State aeronautical policy that covers these aspects will not only benefit the industry, but will also strengthen its position on the global stage.”
