National Action Network Christmas Dinner in Harlem Draws Huge Crowd of Needy Residents

From the National Action Network headquarters in Harlem, a huge line wrapped around the corner, while inside the venue, dozens of needy people waited for their Christmas dinner.

For many of the visitors, it was the only opportunity to receive a plate of food on Christmas Eve, in addition to sharing at the table with others.

Rice, vegetables, pasta and a good portion of tenderloin in sauce were some of the foods that the attendees, with very low economic resources, enjoyed.

Our reporter Yeila Lluberes, from Univision 41, went to the center and found that it was difficult to walk, due to the number of people who came to eat on Christmas.

The children received Christmas gifts

Alejandra González, a Hispanic mother who attended the activity, thanked the hosts for the gift they gave her 6-year-old daughter.

“It is important, because they help us receive a gift that is for our children (…) It is also so that they are a little distracted,” he said.

Mayor Eric Adams was present and helped serve the plates of food for the beneficiaries. The Rev. Al Sharpton also participated as a volunteer.

“We must be thankful that we can be with our families, because thousands of people, such as immigrants seeking asylum and the homeless, cannot be with their loved ones. There is so much we can do,” said the local authority.

Since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March 2020, this is the second time this activity has been carried out. It is expected that there will be another one by the end of the year.

National Action Network, a nonprofit organization, was founded in 1991 to advocate for civil rights.
