Nathalie Stutzmann appointed in Philadelphia

Contralto and conductor Nathalie Stutzmann has been appointed Principal Guest Conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Nathalie Stutzmann has just been named Principal Guest Conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra. She signed a three-year contract. It will start this fall for the 2021/22 season. She will succeed another Frenchman, Stéphane Denève, guest conductor of the principal of the Philadelphia Orchestra since 2014.

She is entering her third season at the helm of the Kristiansand Symphony Orchestra. As guest conductor, she started the 2020/21 season with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra, which she will conduct twice more.

Among the highlights of the next two seasons, Nathalie Stutzmann will conduct the Philadelphia Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the NDR Elbphilharmonie, the London Symphony, and the Orchester National de Lyon.

Nathalie Stutzmann is also renowned as an opera conductor. She will begin her 2021/22 season as the head of the Metropolitan Opera Orchestra.

Nathalie Stutzmann studied music very young. She practiced piano, bassoon, cello, and studied conducting with the legendary Finnish conductor Jorma Panula. She was also mentored by Seiji Ozawa and Sir Simon Rattle.

She was promoted to Chevalier de l’Ordre National de la Légion d’Honneur in 2019. She had previously been crowned Chevalier de l’Ordre National du Mérite and Officer of Arts and Letters for having made a unique contribution to the cultural life of France.

Nathalie Stutzmann is about to release a new album. Entitled Contralto, it should be released in January 2021.
