Björn is selected in the Swedish national team squad that this week will gather in Portugal to play the Algarve Cup. But in Sunday’s match in the English top league, for the club team Everton, she had to be replaced due to injury, the club writes on its social media.
The meeting, where Björn’s national team colleagues Anna Anvegård and Hanna Bennison played, ended 0-2 for Everton. Anvegård got the chance from the start and was replaced in the 78th minute, while Bennison started on the bench and was replaced after 34 minutes.
Björn stepped down in the meeting with Reading last week, after suffering a leg injury. No more detailed information about the damage has been given. Coach Chris Roberts told the club’s website before the match that they hoped that Björn would be back in the squad on Sunday and that the player worked hard to be ready to play then.
The Algarve Cup in February will be an important tournament for Sweden, which after the silver medal with a taste of gold in the Olympics hopes to go far in this summer’s European Championships in England. There, Sweden will meet at least Denmark (February 18) and Portugal (February 20) in addition to the final placement match.
Nathalie Björn has made 34 A-international matches for Sweden, where she was noted for four goals.
