Pacer T Natarajan has been named in the Indian squad for the remaining matches of the Test series against Australia. The left-arm bowler will replace Umesh Yadav, who was injured during the second Test. Umesh returned home. The third Test is in Sydney at 7 p.m.
Opener Rohit Sharma will also play in the third Test. Rohit has been appointed as the vice-captain. Cheteshwar Pujara was the vice-captain in the second Test.
Natarajan, 29, made his Indian debut in the Twenty20 series in December. He then played in the ODI series. First in Test cricket.
Ishant Sharma’s withdrawal from the series ahead of the series was a setback for India. Mohammad Shami also lost after the first Test. With the return of Umesh, only Jaspreet Bumra remains in the top order. Mohammad Siraj made his debut in the last Test. Navdeep Saini and Shardul Thakur are also in the 15-member squad.
If Rohit joins the team, one of Mayank Agarwal and Hanuma Vihari will lose his place. Shubhman Gill, who made his Test debut in the second Test, is unlikely to be ruled out.
The series is currently 1–-1.
