While the US is currently experiencing an uptick in anti-Semitic comments, Natalie Portman took to Instagram to denounce “painful” and “scary” comments.
While in the United States there has been a resurgence of hate speech against Jews for several weeks, the Israeli-American actress Natalie Portman condemned, on Sunday 4 December, what she called “a resurgence of anti-Semitism”.
“This hate must be fought with unlimited love for each other,” she wrote in an Instagram post before continuing: “Today I am sending extra love to my fellow Jews. And I send love to all who stand with us in the face of these violent words and actions. It was painful and scary to listen to, and I am extremely grateful to all who continue to speak out with us against anti-Semitism and against all forms of racism. »
This publication by the actress came just days after rapper Kanye West made anti-Semitic statements. Interviewed a few days ago by far-right conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, the rapper was quick to praise Adolf Hitler, saying he believes people shouldn’t criticize the Nazis. “There are good things about Hitler,” he said before calling himself a Nazi.
Hate speech also denounced by Joe Biden
Outraged by these remarks, US President Joe Biden for his part reacted on Twitter: “I just want to clarify a few things. The Holocaust happened. Hitler was a demonic character. And instead of giving it a platform, our political leaders should expose and reject anti-Semitism wherever it lurks. Silence is complicity. »
When the American president speaks of “political leaders”, he refers without naming his predecessor Donald Trump. In November, the former White House resident shocked much of the country by inviting Kanye West and Nick Fuentes, a white nationalist Holocaust denier, to dinner at his Mar-a-Lago residence.
