NATALICIO – Mrs. Carmen Quidiello, Bosch widow reaches her 105th birthday

Doña Carmen Quidiello, Bosch widow reached her 105th birthday this Wednesday.

Quidiello, who was born in Santiago de Cuba in 1915, married the writer and political leader in 1943, with whom he had three children.

After the overthrow of her then-husband in power, in 1963, the coup leaders told them that she was going to enter her house and that if they dared they would shoot her in the back.

Like her husband, she was a poet, playwright and a consecrated of social struggles, achieving the admiration of whoever was the founder of the Dominican Revolutionary (PRD) and Dominican Liberation (PLD) parties.

“Of all the beautiful and fruitful things I have had in life, the best, the most beautiful and the most fruitful, is to have met Carmen Quidiello,” Bosch once said.

Quidiello dedicated her life to accompany her husband and the Dominican people in the fight against dictatorships, for democracy and true social justice.

At some point he said that she was not “first lady” because “if there is a first lady it means that there is a last one and who would be that last one”? To which he added: “If there is a first lady, it is the woman who washes in the river.”

Currently Mrs. Carmen Quidiello is the President of the Juan Bosch Foundation, the institution in charge of spreading the political and social thought of her deceased husband.
