With ‘Déjà-Vu’, a new series for Streamz, Broods – after roles in ‘Over Water’ and ‘Tabula Rasa’, among others – again dives into a character who carries an emotional backpack. She plays Florence Fierens, a successful radio host who returns in time after the death of her 15-year-old daughter to change the course of events. “As an actress, I like to dig into grief and pain, hoping it won’t happen to me in real life. If I have already experienced it as an actress, it may be less harsh in reality. That is the reasoning ”, Broods laughs in Gazet van Antwerpen. Although it is of course not easy to play such an emotional role. “I can easily switch it off on the way home,” the actress assures. “Sometimes you play a scene with different emotions, to test what gives the best result. If you have the right emotion, it is cathartic for me. No, the hardest thing about this shooting period was that I was barely home. I was on the set really every day. My friend, who is a sound engineer, was also on a set at the time. And in times of corona it is not easy to arrange childcare. So it was important to keep all the signs in the air. I remember the kids had their first day in the first year of college. But in my head I was mainly with the series. So not so much the emotions, but the concentration arc was the most difficult. ”

Recording in corona times, it is indeed not easy. This was also noticeable with ‘Déjà-Vu. The series was recorded in 2020. “The plan was to start filming from April. When corona happened to us, I was afraid that the project would be postponed for a year, so that I would no longer be able to play the part, ”says Broods. “Fortunately we had a producer who had the balls to say after a while that we were just going to do it. Knowing that a second lockdown was coming, we had to pull out all the stops. We started on July 22 and ended on October 16. ” Filming corona proof was not yet established at all at the time. “We were one of the first major productions to get going after those three months of downtime. After just three days of admission, we suspected that someone from the team had been in contact with an infected person. Now people are a bit more flexible about this, but then we had to stop filming immediately. ”
