Because he excluded Franjieh from his list of candidates for the presidency of Lebanon
Hezbollah Secretary General Hassan Nasrallah refused to hold a meeting with the head of the Free Patriotic Movement, Lebanese MP Gebran Bassil. Because he prepared a list of presidential candidates that did not include the name of the head of the Marada Movement, Suleiman Franjieh.
A leading source in the Shiite duo (Hezbollah and the Amal movement) revealed to Asharq Al-Awsat that the dispute between Hezbollah and Bassil remained under control until the latter contacted the party’s liaison and coordination official, Wafiq Safa, and asked him to arrange a meeting. He gathers him with Nasrallah to consult with him on the list he prepared with the names of a number of candidates for the presidency of the republic, so Safa inquired from Basil whether it included the name of Franjieh, and Basil’s answer was in the negative. God told him when he met him that Franjieh was the most fortunate.
The source pointed out that Safa frankly told Basil that there is no need in the foreseeable future for him to meet with Nasrallah, as long as he maintains his position. And he believed that there was no way to restore the relationship between Basil and “Hezbollah” when he entered into a direct confrontation with Nasrallah.
