Already on Saturday, Näslund took the weekend’s first World Cup victory in Idre – and by far. Sunday’s competition continued on the beaten path.
Because there, Sandra Näslund, one of Sweden’s big medal jumps in the Beijing Olympics, had no problem showing again why she is the season’s strongest rider on the women’s side. In both the quarterfinals and semifinals, Näslund was first to finish. In the subsequent final, Sandra Näslund – in the usual way – took the lead early.
Several meters before the other riders, Näslund could easily finish first after the Swede Alexandra Edebo and the Austrian Katrin Ofner crashed in a duel. Edebo was taken on a snowmobile from the slopes and according to the Swedish Ski Association, she is “a little blown but okay” after the competition.
For Sandra Näslund, the World Cup victory was the 26th of her career.
– I have ridden well the last week, and I am happy with that, and I am of course happy to win, she says to Viaplay afterwards.
Since this year’s season started at the end of November, Sandra Näslund has won all but one competition. Then, just over a month ago, she finished fourth in Switzerland. Thus, the Swede leads the World Cup with a comfortable points distance down to rival Fanny Smith, Switzerland, who due to a knee injury was not on the starting lists in Idre.
