Nashville SC hopes to score a favorable seed in the MLS Cup playoffs when it wraps up the regular season at home against the New York Red Bulls on Decision Day Saturday.
Kickoff between Nashville (13-10-10, 49 points) and the Red Bulls (10-10-13, 40 points) is set for 5 p.m. from Geodis Park. The game can be watched on Apple TV.
Nashville sits at seventh place in the Eastern Conference. While it can’t fall any lower than that, it can climb as high as fifth, ahead of the New England Revolution (52 points) and Atlanta United (50 points).
To jump Atlanta, Nashville needs to beat New York and hope Atlanta ties or loses at FC Cincinnati. It can also tie the Red Bulls and hope Atlanta loses to Cincinnati by at least six goals.
To jump New England, Nashville needs to beat New York and hope the Revolution lose at home to the Philadelphia Union, meaning the two teams would tie on points. Both teams would have 14 wins, so the tiebreaker would then move to goal differential, followed by total goals.
The Revolution currently has a plus-11 goal differential with 56 goals scored, while Nashville is plus-8 with 39 goals. In essence, Nashville would need to make up a four-goal differential, as it would lose the total goals tiebreaker.
