INDONESIAN INFO. JAKARTA – The NasDem Party asked the public to increase vigilance in anticipating the transmission of bird flu to humans.
Deputy Chairman of the MPR RI, Lestari Moerdijat, revealed that the transmission case had occurred in the Southeast Asian region.
“The finding that there has been transmission of bird flu to humans in Cambodia must really be anticipated to prevent the spread of the disease in the Southeast Asian region,” he said in a written statement to journalists in Jakarta, Monday (27/2/2023).

Former Director of WHO Communicable Diseases for Southeast Asia, Prof. Tjandra Yoga Aditama, revealed that cases of bird flu (H5N1) had spread to humans in Cambodia.
An 11 year old child in Cambodia died from bird flu. Previously, there were 22 chickens and three ducks that died in the family’s home environment.
In the village where the family lives, a number of wild birds have died, and there are still 11 other people who are being examined who may have contracted bird flu.

According to Lestari, efforts to prevent the spread of bird flu cases to humans must be carried out immediately in order to fortify every country, including Indonesia, from the threat of this disease.
Collaboration between ministries and institutions, he said, such as the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Agriculture, as well as the Agricultural Quarantine Agency, must be strengthened to monitor the movement of poultry and people between regions.
The legislator from Electoral District II of Central Java hopes that the monitoring mechanism in a number of places such as poultry farms, animal markets and residences can be improved by reporting to the authorities if they find unnatural deaths of poultry.

Meanwhile in a number of health facilities, the member of the Upper House of the NasDem Party hopes that health workers will also be aware of a number of flu symptoms found.
According to him, the pattern of controlling the spread of infectious diseases by involving many parties demands solidity between the relevant ministries and the community in its implementation.
