The general chairman of the Nasdem Party, Surya Paloh, admitted that he definitely knew the reason Golkar Party cannot support Anies Baswedan in the 2024 presidential election. Paloh continues to respect the choice of the party bearing the banyan symbol.
“Golkar officials came to the Nasdem Standby Ceremony at GBK, we respect it. Then the general chairman of Golkar Airlangga, my younger brother, said he didn’t support Anies, we respected him. I definitely know why he couldn’t support Anies,” said Surya Paloh in a discussion with journalists in Padang, reported detikSumatraSunday (6/8/2023).
While joking, Surya Paloh said he saw Airlangga’s mood when he said Golkar would not support Anies.
“Let me see how he feels, is he happy to say he doesn’t support Anies? If he is happy, I have the wrong perception. If not, what if he is happy? That’s what we have to understand,” he said.
Even though Airlangga has confirmed that Golkar will not support Anies, this does not mean that Nasdem’s political communication with Golkar has stopped. For Surya Paloh, Golkar is his past which he will never forget, because he was a Golkar cadre for 43 years, from an ordinary member to the Advisory Council of the Golkar Party. Golkar has taught him a lot so that he is mature in politics.
“Golkar has given me experience and understanding. I have been in Golkar for 43 years. So my communication with Golkar does not stop immediately,” he added.
