“NasDem Considers PKS Proposal for Sandiaga Uno as VP Candidate for Anies Baswedan”

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Chairman of the Party NasDem Surya Palo said his party would consider the PKS proposal it wanted to carry Sandiaga Uno as a candidate for vice president for Anies Baswedan.

“We’ll see what’s the best, the best choice of the good. That’s what we have to fight for together, right?” said Surya at the NasDem Tower on Thursday, 11 May 2023.

Moreover, he said, PKS is a partner of the NasDem coalition with the Democratic Party. So that the proposal from PKS is worthy of consideration. “NasDem is one of the driving forces, right? There are friends from Democrats and PKS,” said Surya.

As is known, NasDem, Democrats, and PKS have joined the coalition for change for unity. The three parties have also carried Anies Baswedan as the 2024 presidential candidate.

The name of the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno was previously mentioned by PKS President Ahmad Syaikhu as worthy of accompanying Anies Baswedan. Collaboration between the two is not impossible. In fact, Syaikhu admitted that he had initiated this collaboration since last year in Makassar.

“Yes, it is very possible that this can be realized, yes, I even initiated this when a year ago at a meeting in Makassar,” Syaikhu said when met at the General Election Commission (KPU) Hall of the Republic of Indonesia, Monday, May 8 2023.

However, Syaikhu reminded that the political condition is dynamic. Touching on the cawapres candidate, Syaikhu said it would be in accordance with the coalition agreement.

“Of course politics is dynamic, and it is still very possible that it could happen, therefore we in the Change Coalition will of course fully as a coalition charter agreement hand over this cawapres issue to Anies,” Syaikhu said.

He said PKS hopes that the determination of the cawapres is not just a symbolic thing. “We want that the vice presidential candidate brought by Anies will be able to have a winning effect in 2024,” Syaikhu said.

Syaikhu said there was a chance for Sandiaga Uno to join PKS. Only for the near future, said Syaikhu, is he currently busy with various activities as a minister.

“Yes, it will be carried out later, yes, because he is a minister, there are many activities carried out, his capacity as a minister is to go around the cities and districts that are his responsibility,” said the former Deputy Mayor of Bekasi.
