LONG POND, Pa. – Brandon Jones sprung forward from the peloton during the final two rounds of the NASCAR light truck series race on Sunday on his way to victory in curtain-raising from a triple program at Pocono Raceway.
Austin Hill finished second and Sheldon Creed, who won two stages, completed the podium.
Quebecer Raphaël Lessard was involved in an accident and was unable to complete the event.
In the late afternoon, the Xfinity race was won in overtime by Chase Briscoe, ahead of Ross Chastain and Jeremy Clements. Briscoe deserved his fourth victory in 2020.
It will be the first time that the three main NASCAR series have presented an event on the same track on the same day.
It will also be the fifth time that the three main NASCAR heats have been contested on the same day, although they have taken place in different locations.
In the Cup series, Kevin Harvick will strive for a second victory in as many days.
The truck race stretched due to nine flags, two of which were red.
Christian Eckes suffered a puncture in the right rear tire which sent him against the safety wall with 12 laps to complete, putting an end to his work day. The green flag was raised with eight laps to go, but the race was again interrupted three laps later when a ninth incident – in a race that consisted of 60 laps – occurred.
With two laps to go, the leaders of the circuit then opted for the traditional green-white-checkerboard sequence which allowed Jones to surprise Creed, on the way to his first victory in 46 career starts in light trucks – and his first start in this series since last year.
