Jakarta –
NASA got dizzy 7 around because Voyager 2, a plane that has traveled 19.9 kilometers to the edge of the Solar System, lost contact. But surprisingly, Voyager 2 was able to communicate again after NASA had been pessimistic.
As reported, the command sent to Voyager 2 on July 21 accidentally caused the probe’s antenna to turn 2 degrees from Earth. The shift made Voyager 2 unable to receive commands or transmit data to Earth from its location in interstellar, interstellar space.
At first NASA was surprised to detect Voyager signals using the Deep Space Network, an international array of massive radio antennas that allow NASA to communicate with missions in the cosmos. Whereas previously it was estimated that Voyager 2 would only be able to recover after being reset in October.
NASA is also trying where the Deep Space Network sends a new command in hopes of re-orienting Voyager 2’s antenna, using Australia’s highest-powered transmitter. It took more than 18 hours for the command to reach Voyager 2 and another 18 hours to hear back.
The attempt was successful. According to officials at the California Jet Propulsion Laboratory, Voyager 2 is starting to be able to send data back to Earth. “I just sighed. I melted in my chair,” says project manager Suzanne Dodd. “Voyager is back,” added project scientist Linda Spilker.
quoted detikINET of the Associated Press, Voyager 2 and its sister Voyager 1, have been exploring the cosmos since 1977. As long as their plutonium holds up, the two may live for the 50th anniversary of launch in 2027.
Among the scientific information they have uncovered in recent years includes details about interstellar magnetic fields and the phenomenon of the abundance of cosmic rays there.
“Hopefully, one of them will reach 50. But they are old and of course events like the one that just happened terrify me,” said Dodd.
