SPACE — On January 6, 1968, NASA launched its seventh Surveyor spacecraft. It was the Surveyor program’s final mission to explore the moon.
Like its six predecessors, Surveyor 7 was a robotic spacecraft sent to test the feasibility of a soft landing on the moon. Two of those missions were unsuccessful in making a soft landing, and both even made emergency landings.
However, Surveyor 7 arrived on the lunar surface intact. Surveyor 7 landed on the rim of Tycho crater, where it collected a wealth of scientific data and took more than 21,000 images. He also successfully completed the Surveyor program. Source: Space.com
