NASA’s Perseverance spacecraft explores a strangely shaped rock on Mars.
Houston, Beritasatu.com – While exploring the Martian terrain, NASA’s Perseverance rover spacecraft spotted a strangely shaped rock that may have traveled from space and reached land on the Red Planet.
Using the SuperCam Remote Micro-Imager, the Perseverance rover took a series of images Friday that revealed donut-shaped rocks lying on the Martian surface. The boulder has a hole in the center and is surrounded by smaller pieces that may have slipped out of it, such as the donut and the donut hole.
The donut rock may have been a meteorite that landed on Mars, according to a tweet from the SETI (Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence) Institute. It “could be a large meteorite alongside small pieces,” the SETI researcher wrote.
Mars is often littered with space rocks because the planet is located next to the Solar System’s main asteroid belt, which contains millions of rocky objects. The atmosphere on Mars is only 1% as thick as Earth’s atmosphere, meaning space rock could easily pass through the Martian atmosphere without being crushed, landing in larger chunks than it shattered through Earth’s atmosphere.
Shortly after landing on the Red Planet, the NASA rover has spotted another strange rock that may also be a meteorite.
NASA rovers find all kinds of oddly shaped objects on Mars, but sometimes it gets us carried away trying to get used to what we see on other worlds, like rock formations shaped like doors, human faces emerging from the rocky surface of Mars, or spoon-like shapes. that was thrown away.
