NASA’s Mars Voice Opens a New World for Scientists

SAN FRANCISCO, iNews.id – Perseverance is a rover Mars the first to include a microphone, an advancement that opens up a whole new world of discovery for NASA scientists looking to learn more about distant planets. This week, the monitoring team released a collection of audio recordings.

For the best experience, NASA recommends that you plug in your headphones before pressing the play button. The Perseverance is equipped with two commercially available microphones, one in the rover’s chassis and the other in the SuperCam located at the end of the vehicle’s mast.

The recording includes the sound of the wind on Mars, giving Red Planet fans an audio experience to go with existing images of demons and dust storms that Perseverance and other Martian explorers like Curiosity have collected.

There was also the sound of Perseverance driving across the surface of Mars. The video also includes Perseverance’s SuperCam laser rock shock sound. Noise is emitted when the laser strikes the rock, with scientists able to use the audio to find out more about the rock’s properties.
