NASA’s James Webb Telescope Discovers LHS 475 b: A Hot Exoplanet Similar to Venus

POJOKSATU.Id – In a recent scientific breakthrough, NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope managed to discover the first exoplanet called LHS 475 b.

This planet, although almost the same size as Earth, surprised researchers with its much hotter temperature.

Researchers from the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory confirmed the existence of this planet.

After just two transit observations using the Webb Telescope’s Near-Infrared Spectrograph (NIRSpec).

Interestingly, this planet has a diameter 99% of that of Earth, opening up the opportunity to understand the atmospheres of rocky planets in greater depth.

However, what makes this discovery even more interesting is the planet’s temperature, which is several hundred degrees hotter than Earth.

Although it may not have an atmosphere, the possibility of an atmospheric composition such as pure carbon dioxide is the subject of in-depth research.

Researchers think the planet is similar to Venus, with a thick carbon dioxide atmosphere and persistent clouds covering it.

The Webb Telescope’s success in discovering this planet opens the door wide for future research on small, rocky exoplanets and helps unravel the mysteries of their atmospheres.***
