WASHINGTON, KOMPAS.TV – The United States Space Agency’s Ingenuity Mars helicopter, NASA, will make its maiden flight on the Red Planet on Sunday (11/4/2021).
As reported by Xinhua, Saturday (10/04/2021), the helicopter was scheduled to take off before midnight on April 11. This will be the first driven and controlled flight on another planet, according to NASA.
If everything goes according to plan, the 1.8-kilogram rotor plane is scheduled to take off from Jezero Crater on Sunday at 12:30 Mars local time or Monday (12/04/2021) at 09:54 WIB, and fly three meters above the planet’s surface for 30 seconds.
Mission control specialists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Southern California estimate that they will receive the first data from the inaugural flight attempt the next morning at around 4:15 a.m. EDT or Tuesday (13/04/2021) at 15:15 WIB.
“While Ingenuity does not carry scientific instruments, the tiny helicopter is already making a presence felt around the world, with future leaders following the helicopter’s progress until it finally makes its unprecedented maiden flight,” said Thomas Zurbuchen, Assistant Science Administration in the Office.
