TOI 700e Discovery Story
Finding the TOI 700e is not easy. NASA scientists took more than a year to confirm that the planet was suitable for habitation. TOI 700e is not the only planet in this system. How does TOI 700e compare to planets c and d?
TOI 700 e is about 95% the size of planet Earth and is most likely a rocky planet similar to the planet we live on. This planet is about 10% smaller than planet d. Even though it is the fourth planet discovered in the TOI 700 system, this planet is located between planets c and d.
“If the star had been closer or the planet a little bigger, we might have seen TOI 700 e in the first year of TESS data collection,” said Ben Hord, a graduate researcher at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
Ben Hord said, TOI 700 e takes about 27.8 days to orbit its star and this planet is also a tidally locked planet, meaning it only rotates once in its orbit and only has one side which always faces towards the star which means it has one side. The moon always faces the Earth.
